Re: A Pilot's Story?

Hi, guys: Certainly Will can update you himself, but APS is alive and well. I've seen an initial rough cut. Additionally, I just sent Will some additional footage (TG-7A and Ford Tri-Motor stuff) to use in the film. Acro Camp is slugging along. The soundtrack is locked. The storyboard is coming alon...

Re: AcroCamp 2011

JHWellington: Haven't been on the forums for almost a year, so I'm just seeing your comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm sorry that you feel that way. It's true that David Allen isn't a private pilot and that he didn't meet the criteria for the casting call. But the fact of the matter is ...

Re: Episode #252 "Avalanche"

Hi, Guys: I haven't posted here in a looooong time, but I apparently still have the cookie on my machine because the board seems to recognize me. Okay: "Acro" vs. "Aero." Aerobatic pilots (and romanticizers of aerobatics in text, audio, and visual media such as your humble corres...

Re: How to Record Video and Audio in the Plane?

Audio I use the M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 (the most recent model of which is available from Sweetwater Sound and other places) (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MicroTrackII-main.html). I select the 1/4" input with low sensitivity and the levels cranked almost all the day down (to avoid ov...

Re: UCAP #84 "Frog Strangler"

No worries! The type rating is as it does, which is to say that I might never fly a 'three again, but the notation on the certificate is a nice artifact of a long weekend in May. Well worth it! It's a really wonderful program and Dan bends over backwards to make it a good experience. And don't wait ...

Re: UCAP #84 "Frog Strangler"

Crap! Just wrote a long and elegant response that I then lost as I saved it. And no time to retype. So here's the gravamen. It's a type rating. It says "DC-3" in Section XII (Ratings) of my certificate. (And, by the way, it covers the variants, too, including the C-47). It's just that it's...

Re: UCAP #84 "Frog Strangler"

EAA charges $100 for the right seat in the Tri-Motor vs. $40 or so for the other seats (although I'm sure that, if no one has paid the premium for the right seat on a given flight, they put a random $40 flyer in it). I had scheduled the right seat for a flight at a Detroit (KDET) appearance, but EAA...

Re: UCAP #85 "Tornado Watch"

Just an additional observation. James is a pilot's pilot. He was completely involved with the training and paid close attention. When he got into the left seat, it became readily apparent that he had been through the materials and he had all of the callouts memorized and was barking them out crisply...

Re: DC-3/ C-47 On Ebay

She looks like a great airplane, too! Having 2.8 hours in Dan Gryder's 'three, I can tell you that the three is a wonderful aircraft. It taxis like a house, but it's wonderful to fly and great to land. I'm only a lottery hit away from ownership. Which is not to be flip about it. If I had the means, ...

Re: UCAP #76 "Just Airplane Nuts"

Really enjoyed the episode, guys. Everyone was on-stride. I especially take my hat off to UCAP for its generosity in plugging fellow podcasters' material and it was good in particular to hear Jason out of the forumla of TFP and able to just ramble a little about flying. No flies on TFP. Just good to...
