Re: UCAP #466 - "Crush Your Soul"

Interestingly enough, the 385 nautical mile distance is nearly equivalent to the distance between Charlotte, NC (CLT) to Philadelphia, PA (PHL). In the same distance covered, 1 Skyhawk Unit of 3.5 hours equates to 1 Airline Unit of 4 hours, given that the proposed flight time by airline is 1.5 hours...

UCAP #466 - "Crush Your Soul"

So has a formal, standardized Skyhawk Unit been established yet? Plus, will this be a measurement of distance, time, or speed?

Episode #461 - Jet Engines & 3D Printers

Ah the Beechcraft Starship 2000! From the first time I saw those beautiful lines, the sexy 'swing wing' canards on the nose, and those pusher props, I was head over heels in love! Not since the F-111 had I been so enamored with an aircraft. My familiarity with the Starship stems from when I lived in...

Re: Aftershow Question about forums

As for old media, have you noticed that I changed my self description at the end of each episode. You're right -- Digital Media Producer now -- I've been listening to a lot of old episodes and I'm in the timeframe where you'd get occasional ribbing about the "new" getting old by now. I fe...

Aftershow Question about forums

Gang, The question was asked on the aftershow of (I believe) episode #442 -- Should the forums remain with their low attendance? [sic] It would be disappointing to see them go, especially with all the interesting posts, photos, and various topics which have been discussed over the years. But as one ...

Re: Trying to win a bar bet

Found it!

The instrument cluster is from an Antonov AN-2.

The lower left instrument is the radar altimeter, and the lower center is the fuel indicator.

UCAP #448 - "Kilo Alpha Fly-in"

Guys, Thanks for letting me sit in on the Tuesday recording of the first 40 minutes of the show. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had some friends I had to meet up with for supper. Never did run into any of you during the rest of the week, but then again I was busy on Airside, as I'm sure yo...

Re: Trying to win a bar bet

Well it's Russian, so I'm assuming that the lower left gauge is airspeed in Kilometers per Hour. You notice that the graduations decrease in spacing after 200, so it's an aircraft not designed for high speed. (Probably just to show you your speed in a dive vs. level flight which can't exceed much be...

Re: UCAP #444 - "Into the Clag"

7th November 1974 Test Concorde G-AXDN flew from RAF Fairford, England to Bangor, Maine, in a record time of 2hrs 56 mins; this was the fastest ever east-west crossing of the North Atlantic by a commercial airliner (even though it wasn't in 'commercial' service yet). Got to walk through this airfram...

Low-Flying Plane Causes Concern At Ohio High School

You probably saw this already, but what a joke. Everybody is on pins and needles these days. God forbid there should be an airplane flying around. https://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Low-Flying-Plane-Causes-Concern-at-Ohio-High-School-230457-1.html The stupid media has us scared of our own damn sh...
