Re: The Latest GA Hitpiece

The problem with that example is Lockheed has no competition. They have an absolute monopoly on ;legal' briefings. Throw in some companies to compete with, and you'll see improvement. Dave's mail example has a flaw as well. He said that companies lobby to keep USPS from raising its rates on mail, th...

Re: The Latest GA Hitpiece

I'm not trying to argue here. I respect Dave's opinion a lot, he's my favorite host on the show. We just have some differing opinions. I do believe government has its place( a small place), I'm by no means an anarchist. However, even thought these rules and regulations are SOMETIMES made with the be...

Re: The Latest GA Hitpiece

The trouble is.....all of the things you just listed would be IMPROVED by having the government step out of the way. Don't believe me? Just YouTube 'John Stossel Goes to Washinton', 'Sick in America' and 'Stupid in America'. ABC's John Stossel does a great job of showing how the private sector handl...

Re: The Latest GA Hitpiece

As a libertarian, I have mixed feelings on this article. I recently did a paper at school on how aviation would be improved if we got the government less involved in it (Jack even mention on a recent episode how most of the innovation we are seeing right now is in the less regulated experimental and...

Re: Photography at Center (Dave's Input would be appreciated)

Well, I'm back to report that the tour was excellent. I took my camera along anyways in an act of defiance. The guy leading the tour cited 'terrorism concerns' as the reason why I wouldn't be allowed to photograph, but surprisingly the controllers in the tower and at center asked me why I wasn't tak...

Photography at Center (Dave's Input would be appreciated)

I'm majoring in commercial aviation and this friday I'm tagging along with our Women in Aviation chapter to tour Memphis Center and I was specifically told I would not be allowed to bring my camera along. My big gripe is, I did a similar behind the scenes tour at Jackson-Evers International Airport ...

Re: IFR sapping the fun out of flying

Our 172Rs don't have autopilots. We're using KLN 94 GPSs and VORs. No DME or ADF either. I've never heard of anyone at our school having their examiner help out with radios or plates. This is the school's stage check guy by the way, not the FAA guy. I still have that flight coming up once I get past...

Re: Challenging Airports

Its definitely a different experience the first few times you land there. We generally don't fly out of there unless the winds are light. I didn't get any grass experience at flight school either until I started flying out of this strip. There's a public grass strip with an instrument approach nearb...

Re: IFR sapping the fun out of flying

Well, I'd like to pick up and move, but this part 141 school is part of a university here. I'm majoring in commercial aviation flight operations and the flying is part of the degree. I don't know if repeating the syllabus is a flight school or part 141 requirement. I found out that you don't have to...
