So you thought the LightSquared vs. GPS issue was dead?

Not so fast... Yesterday, the FCC released a notice seeking comments on a presentation filed by LightSquared. I skimmed through the presentation, which basically concludes the handsets aren't an issue for current GPS use cases, including aviation. It does not, however, as pointed out by the FCC noti...

Re: When ATC Makes a Mistake

I've had similar experiences, but on the arrival, twice. The first time, the controller cleared me to land on long final, then brought a faster a/c in behind me and asked me to keep my speed up. When I was on a 1-mile final, the controller brought a slower aircraft in FRONT of me on a 1/2 mile final...

RE: Charging for charts... A few years ago, I recall an attempt by some of the for-profit weather companies (Accu-Weather being one) to require the same kind of restriction to weather data. If I recall correctly, the NWS was to no longer provide information direct to the end user... only the for-pro...

Re: Barnes-Westfield MA Nov 5 10 am

Jack, While the restaurant at BAF is my favorite place for my wife and I to fly for a $100 hamburger/salad/daily special, the 100LL is some of the cheapest around, and you occasionally get to play with the F-15s in the pattern, I'm afraid you got preempted by my CFI this time. Sorry. At least the we...

Re: Air Venture on Google Earth

We just need to find someone who can schedule events for VFR weather each time so it's CAVU for everyone wanting to join the fun.

Man, I hope I have my Instrument Rating soon! It's SOOOO close. (Not that I need it to get to KASH in my car, but...)

Well, if the political conspiracies don't get you, the finger pointing will... especially when you tell Congress one thing and then complain bitterly about the opposite in the national advertisements you place.

Re: 8.33kHz steps?

Never mind, I found it.

Vertex has the claim on their site. Looks like a European effort, primarily for commercial flights. I didn't see anything for here in the US.

Re: Nashua NH Sept 3 2011

Sounds like a deal, Jack.

Hopefully, I won't have to go flying then... one of the very few reasons to miss seeing the gang.

It's in the calendar, so hopefully I'll be able to keep it free.

See you there, I hope.
