Re: Episde #148: "You're not from around here"

I have a whopping 4 hours in an Ercoupe. I actually posted a picture some time ago in this post: http://uncontrolledairspace.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=693 I don't have a ton of hours. But I have to say that those 4 are some of the most fun I've had in an airplane. Sliding down the window and...

The Great New York IFR Tour (Long post)

KFDK to KUUU to KFDK Trip Report Ok. So I don't venture up the Northeast corridor from DC very often. But I happened to be taking the family to Newport, Rhode Island this past Memorial Day weekend and had an adventure which I thought I would share. The flight up was everything you would want in a tr...

Re: Airventure Oshkosh Meetup

I think Wednesday evening might have the "least" going on and the most attendees, since we can capture the 1st half crowd before they leave and the 2nd half crowd after they arrive. I'd be willing to help as well. Are we talking a North 40 meetup?

Re: IFR sapping the fun out of flying

I'm going to pile on here. You are probably pretty close to being ready for the FAA ride, if you are taking your final stage checks. However, being an IFR pilot requires you to be decisive and assertive YOU are the PIC. So tell him to wait. And if you get behind, do as Luca said and ask ATC for a ho...

Re: Challenging Airports

Sounds like a great topic. Two of the airports on your list are near and dear to my heart. Davis W50 2005 x 25 ft. asphalt/turf 8/26 Like all 25' wide runways, if you're not on or very close to center line, you're in the grass. Power lines on approach to rwy 26 or trees on approach to rwy 8...pick y...

Here's an article I wrote for our flying club newsletter regarding this incident: ********************* Aviate, Navigate, Communicate - It Never Gets Old By Adam Donaldson A few weeks ago, Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, Maryland received an unexpected wakeup call in the form of a thunder...

Re: Twin Drivers - Why not counter rotating props

In my quest to listen to all UCAP podcasts in order whilst commuting, I've come across Jeb & Dave talking about this in episode #84 (at approximately 8 minutes). I'll be sure not to run off the right side of the runway by improperly stomping right rudder should I ever get the chance to takeoff i...

That doesn't sound like the friendly kind of airport. Find another one. You won't regret it.

Re: Interesting Places to Fly (KGAI-KEYE)

Hm. Beautiful Tiger...GAI...sounds familiar. If you are going to fly that far, you may have weight and balance issues which require you to put a little more weight in the back. Say...170 lbs (with headset).

Re: Hello and getting started

Next trip to the airport, try to engage/meet/chat with a real pilot... Dave's suggestion is dead on. Most pilots I know don't mind pausing to engage in an aviation conversation for a few minutes. There are usually training resources at larger GA airports such as independent CFIs or flying clubs whi...
