WWII B-17 Pilot's combat diary
If you have any interest in World War II or the Greatest Generation, you might appreciate this new blog: A Combat Diary of 37 Missions Through Hell . I promised my great cousin, a WWII B-17 pilot, that I would re-bind and transcribe his book. With his permission, I'm also publishing it online for al...

Re: mega yacht spotted
Oh hay, I found out how you do it... on that exact yacht, even! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edObQJBoSPU It's easy, really. Just 3 simple steps. Step 1: Get a 20 million dollar yacht with a dinghy so large it requires its own dinghy Step 2: Put on your brown pants Step 3: Pray pray pray pray pray

Re: mega yacht spotted
How does one launch that helicopter? It looks like the rotor swing puts it within feet of the uppermost deck, if not overlapping.

UCAmP 2013?
In a recent episode of Other People's Airplanes, Jack was interviewed and gave great advice: "You need to find your neighborhood." I feel like I've found that in the online aviation communities and podcasts, the highlight of which is UCAP. Of course, the tie-down party and live shows are b...

A Vice-Presidential tow hook?
On a visit to Seattle's Museum of Flight, we stopped by the outdoor exhibit to tour the first jet-propelled Air Force One. On the left side of the belly, we saw the most peculiar thing: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7071/7324878872_b6447da069.jpg Full size version: http://www.flickr.com/photos/isnoo...

I turned one today! Though I did go through a two year "gestation" period. =)

Happy Wright Day to me!
I've been around aviation for a few years now and yet I've never heard of a proper celebration of a pilot's years in flight. So today I propose celebrating your Wright Day*! What: Your Wright Day is the anniversary of first earning your pilot's license. Why: Celebrating one's time flying should be s...

I've solved it!
I've done it. It wasn't hard, really. I've just solved our pilot population problem once and for all. Being a recently minted pilot, I feel I'm justifiably proud. (A condition I'm told never fades) If my wife would let me, I'd daily wear a shirt that boasted "Why yes, I am a pilot ". Short...

Greetings from the newest private pilot
I've been working on this for almost exactly two years. We had a baby, I upgraded jobs, and there was endless remodeling. In the end, I'll bet I have some sort of high score with 88.6 hours and 232 landings. However, this spring I put everything on hold and gritted my teeth to endure what was easily...

Card compasses
UCAP gang,
I'd love to hear your take on why every aircraft doesn't get fitted with a card compass like this one. On paper, the benefits seem fantastic, and the price is certainly right--that's probably one of the cheapest instruments you could load in your aircraft. So, what gives?
