First Mediterranean UCAP meetup

Just a quick note and a picture from Menorca, Spain, where I finally had the pleasure of meeting Damià in person for the very first time, after a couple of years of knowing him from this forum. http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/599/img76107856915.jpg The thing in the background is Damià's office in...

Re: Looking to fly in Europe

Here's the long overdue answer to that email you sent me, Bill... Apologies for missing the answer the first time! I don't know people in the north of France, quite frankly, but I know people in Switzerland, in the Bern area, and depending on how you travel from La Plagne to Chateau D'Oex som...

New SAR birds in the next decade

I've just read an interesting article on a NextGen version of the current SAR system, here is the link: http://www.nextgov.com/nextgov/ng_20100525_2717.php?oref=rss?zone=NGtoday Basically they will use a payload of newer GPS satellites in order to have more birds at any given time orbit above the pl...

Re: Episode #185 "It's Not Right"

Given the number of people flying under that license, I can't help but think that the program missed the mark a little. I don't have the time to look it up right now, but I get the feeling there's a *lot* more people flying under Sport Pilot in the US. (more than the 10:1 population ratio between t...

Re: Episode #185 "It's Not Right"

How many RPP are active in Canada, gmarshall, do you know? There is a similar license in the FAA world too, but it never caught much attention, maybe it's the medical requirements that made it unattractive, who knows. So here the $100 million question. Would a canadian RPP pilot like to go flying in...

Italy from the sky

In my not-so-frequent-as-I'd-like flights over Italy, I often take pictures. No surprise there. What was surprising is the fact that my wife collected a few and sent them to a friend who publishes a quasi-famous daily Internet newsletter about sights of Italy. Here is the result: http://www.italiann...

Re: Any Reason to Log Solo Hours after Check Ride?

You might want to get an IR ticket someday, too. But most important is the fact that champguy already mentioned, your experience will be useful towards insurance companies. They are happier when they insure a more experienced pilot. And you might be happy too, as your premium might be lower. :D And ...

Re: Ep # 184

OK Sven, maybe a little clarification is needed in order to get things right. I wanted to know if you flew IFR at all, or if you were a commercial pilot flying IFR in the flight levels at all for good reasons, let me explain. All what you say is absolutely spot on, a good visual scan is imperative a...
