GA is scary. Channel 5 told me so.

I stayed up a little late to watch the 10:00 news on Channel 5 in Phoenix tonight, because they'd been teasing an "expose" over the past couple of days regarding security at the Glendale Municipal Airport (KGEU) during the NFC Championship game, which was played in Glendale at the Universi...

This has to be the off-field landing of the month, at least.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/01/15/new.york.plane.crash/index.html A US Airways plane took off from New York - LaGuardia bound for Charlotte when a flock of geese decided to leave at approximately the same time. Both engines were destroyed by ingesting geese. The pilots successfully ditched the Airbu...

Re: He made it to the runway, but I wonder what went wrong??

Gonna be a bit of the contrarian here and stress a couple of things... First, in the NTSB parlance, such an event is generally categorized as an incident versus an accident...second, the mainstream press -- excepting a handful of outlets -- don't know beans about aviation, let along NTSB regs... Th...

Re: He made it to the runway, but I wonder what went wrong??

I hear ya all. I was just being a little flippant. You've all heard the saying, "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Any landing you can use the plane again is a great one." I sure don't believe this. In fact I had a very not-so-great landing today, but I'm pretty sure t...

Re: Is the UCAP Podcast too long ?????

The podcast is definitely not too long. Even with trying to catch up on the backlist, and listening to another half-dozen or so podcasts, I'd much rather have more podcast, not less, so by all means don't shorten it.

Re: He made it to the runway, but I wonder what went wrong??

I don't know that I'd call it a completely successful landing, either. Granted, he walked away, but if the airplane's bent, I have a hard time calling it completely "successful."

Pilot drops in on golf tournament

http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/19400259.html

An unidentified pilot had some engine trouble today, Friday May 30, and had to put his Cessna down on the 18th fairway right before the start of a charity golf tournament. He walked away, but he bent the airplane a bit.

Re: Video interview on electric flying

Battery technology will need to get orders of magnitude better to replace the energy density of petroleum-based fuels, but if it does, that would be a great thing, for all manner of light transportation options.
