Re: Oshkosh 2015

I have to arrive earlier next year! We came in on Tuesday, all set to camp in the North 40 and arrive before the 2:30 airshow shut down the arrival stream. We heard on the atis that camping was "saturated" and to find other airports. Man!! not what we wanted to hear. Luckily, we had people...

Re: Suggestion for UCAP: Patreon?

I determined my pledge amount based on my aircraft.

Seemed to make all the sense in the world... fly a Skylane? pledge $1.82 per episode.

Now, if we can only get some more TBM 900 pilots...

Re: Lee Bottom Fly-in '14

here's a short video of our departure from Lee Bottom. Gives you an idea of what a special unique place it is... just a smooth buttery grass strip, and amazing country side. There was a flight of two yellow biplanes coming in as we departed, passing off to our left as we paralleled the river. Met so...

almost a head-on with a Bonanza

This was a "memorable" flight.. at least this portion of it. Just a quiet early Sept flight over Western Mass and poor communication led to myself and a departing plane flying in opposite directions towards each other! Not my proudest moment, obviously. But one of those dreaded "learn...

Lee Bottom Fly-in '14

I'm doing some flight planning for an event in Santa Fe I'm attending late September. Was looking for a good place or two to camp along the route, and came across Lee Bottom's website. Turns out they're having their big Wood, Fabric, and Tailwheel Fly-in the weekend of 9/21. Unfortunately, those are...

GoPro fun

I've been having some fun with my new gadget/toy: GoPro3+ I've gotten it mounted on the wing where it has a nice perspective... head height, unobstructed by struts or wheel pants, but still able to capture some of the nose wheel and cowling for perspective. I have a feeling non aviators would prefer...

Re: Retracing the Flight of Passage

What a great adventure! I've read this book a couple of times, and while it makes me wistful that I didn't begin flying before my 40's... the vicarious joy I get from their sense of adventure and accomplishment is tremendous. Wish I was going to Oshkosh this year. It would be one of my first of many...

Re: Tower audio of a VFR gone almost very wrong

That was harrowing! Huge props to the controllers... they really kept the pilot from going over the emotional edge a couple of times. Very convincing account of why it makess sense to get the instrument ticket. He did pretty well with his altitude management, but the challenge of keeping the wings l...

Re: New plane, almost ready for delivery

Well... it's a done deal! After numerous delays, and great anticipation, I finally took delivery of a new E-350. I was scheduled to fly up to Canada the day that Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, so obviously had to stay home and keep things intact. The following week I was able to make my way up ...

Landing a Skylane at Logan Airport (KBOS)

Here's a link to a short video I took during an approach and landing into Logan airport. I was taking a couple for Angel Flight from Presque Isle, Maine down for treatment in Boston. It was a beautiful early Fall day, past Mount Katahdin and down to the coast of Maine by Kennebunkport. I live for da...
