Episode #405 Qantas

Hi guys, As an A380 captain, I thought I would write in to comment on the Qantas incident mentioned at the start of #405. There is an essential difference between an engine failure on a twin versus quad; the first one is obviously a Land ASAP while on a quad a single engine failure (contained) is no...

The little yellow aeroplane

As an A380 captain, I find myself going back to grassroots aviation more and more and I'm presently looking into buying a Piper Cub. Years ago, somebody told me an aviation story, which I can't find anymore. Earlier today, I rewrote it in my own words. Except for the Space Shuttle part, I've lived t...

Re: Ep#333 GO AROUND or MISSED APPROACH

FOR JEBB, MISSED APPROACHES vs GO AROUNDS Not sure if I agree with Jebb's statement with regards to Go Arounds and Missed approaches...I do realise it is a very controversial subject. As an A 380 captain I literary fly around the world (including the US) and get to see a lot of differences. First l...

2 Very close call videos at Moorabbin, Australia

Bumped into these two videos of a runway incursion and a mid-air in Australia. It looks like the events happened somewhere 2011. Given the "aircraft infringing is a C172", I hope its not the same airplane and/or pilot... Pretty close if you ask me! Runway incursion video: http://www.youtub...

Re: EP#320?????????????

JAck,

Believe Air India park at Terminal 4. This chart however is not for the 777, this light twin is too small  Only for A380 and B747800.

Re: EP#320?????????????

Thanks for another good episode guys... Some feedback on taxying A380's at airports. Attached is an Operational plan for the A380 in JFK. This colour coded sheet explains where one can taxi, taxi with limitations (e.g. no other aircraft of a certain size on the parallel taxiway, or not allowed to ta...

Re: Ep# 317 Li batteries

Thanks for another great episode! With regards to Lithium batteries bringing down aircraft... Originally from Belgium (EUR), I live in Dubai where I fly A380's for a living. On September 3rd 2010, I witnessed something I don't want to see again. A UPS B747-400 overflew my house between 200 and 300ft...
