“A Dark and Stormy Morning" UCAP465

Gentlemen, First of all I hope that all of you had a very Merry Christmas. Second of all I wanted to add to the discussion as to why the pilot sits in the right seat of a helicopter. Jack, you suggested several compelling reasons as to why this is so. However, none of your thoughts are correct. At l...

Re: UCAP #442 - Bushing Migration

I just listened to the Podcast and wanted to add my $.02 to the discussion about the Athens Ben Epps Airport. Athens has had 2 different airlines in the past 13 years that I have lived there, both under the EAS (Essential Air Services) Program, and they had at least one before that. They have tried ...

UCAP #438 - "Abby-Normal"

I was listening to the podcast this morning on the drive to work, and I listened with great interest to all of it (great podcast, gentlemen - as usual), but I was most interested in the discussion of the Air Canada event at SFO. Jeb mentioned that the FAA had been working on a ground-based safety sy...

UCAP #433 - "International Cherry"

I was listening to the latest episode on an early drive to work this morning, and I have not quite finished it (No traffic driving to the Atlanta Airport at 4:30 in the morning, so the podcast was longer than the drive). I thought I would add just a couple of things - 1. A few years ago, a good frie...

Re: What Pilot Shortage? There's No Pilot Shortage!

Jeff, Certainly not next year, or even next decade, but I do think it is coming. At what point reality and technology intersect is unknown, but I do think it is inevitable. The air lines are already worrying about pilot availability keeping pace with growth as well as retirements. I just brought it ...

What Pilot Shortage? There's No Pilot Shortage!

I have believed for several years that this would be the airline industry's long-term answer to a pilot shortage. People thought that I was nuts for saying so. Apparently Boeing agrees with me -

Can Anybody ID This Airplane?

I was taxiing out last week in Bogota, Colombia, and saw this Colombian Air Force airplane. Those are some monster engines! I have no idea what it is, but thought that someone might be able to ID the model. It sort of reminds me of 30+ years ago I was in Japan when I was in the Marine Corps. The Jap...

Re: Episode 430 - "S Turns On A Highway"

TOJ, I think the one thing that made me really like the F8 was the fact it was the last fighter in the Navy/Marine Corps inventory to have guns in the wings. Truly the last of the gunfighters. I liked the A7 because I worked with them as a FAC, and those guys could fly the $&!? out of that airpl...
