What do people think of drones?

I guess I always thought of drones as cool new technology, but then again I'VE never had one circling over me. (Gotten reports sometimes from notams that they might be flown in the vicinity, but never seen one.) Anyway I found this interesting article about one controversy: are they even LEGAL to us...

Re: Ice Pilots Melted

Yeah, bummer; looks you were right, Jeb, this was a limited time offer. Thanks for telling us about it, though... glad I got in a good six episodes before they pulled the plug!

Really good TV... no wonder they won't allow it in the US!

Who's going to Sun-n-Fun 2010? Anyone flying there?

After listening to Jack, Jeb, and Dave go on about the excitement of Sun-n-Fun and Oshkosh for the last couple years I'm making it a priority this April to make it to Florida for my first of the big air shows. I'm curious who else from the UCAP world might be going... anyone else from the West Coast...

Re: Any in-cockpit camera mounting solutions?

I picked up a suction cup mount from Amazon for about $30 called the PanaVise. It works pretty well with my Flip Ultra HD, but if you go with Rick Felty's clamp/articulated arm from FilmTools it would give you more options... for a higher price I'm sure. How do you like the Zi8? I hear it might be a...

Re: Financing Flight Training...

I used Pilot Finance in order to get a loan for flight training in the Fall of '08 (when all the financial crisis was beginning and it was becoming next to impossible to find a lender), and shortly after signing the contract I discovered a few things that I really wish someone had told me beforehand...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

In my opinion "How much to learn to fly?" is the wrong question, because you really never stop. I mean, how can there ever be a finite number unless you plan on quitting after a certain point? The right question is probably, "How much does it cost to fly ?" Which in my neighborho...

Re: Buying an Aviation Handheld Radio

So Jack, did you ever end up buying a handheld radio? If so, which one? Your talk about it on the podcast got me interested, and lately I've been thinking since the aircraft I fly these days usually already have a GPS unit, a handheld Com might be more useful in the flight bag than a handheld GPS......

Summer Flying Issues

Although we often talk about Winter Flying considerations, a recent Memorial Day trip reminded me of some things not to forget as the weather warms up. Like performance! Departing the quiet uncontrolled airport of Wickenburg, Arizona, I was amazed what a difference a few hours of desert sun could do...

Air Hitchhiking... could it work?

I've always wanted to stand at the hold-short line with a thumb out, but somehow FAA regs have so far prevented it. Plus the prop wash messes up my hair. But though I might not always find someone leaving with a free seat right when I'm ready to join, I have spent enough time at airports to occasion...
