Re: "Congressional Urgings" UCAP #226

Let me join this thread late in the game. :) I have never flown in Florida but learned to fly in Fullerton (the nearest airport to Anaheim.) The TFR allows ATC to send aircraft though for safety and separation reasons. One time I was coming out of John Wayne (KSNA) and heading home (KFUL). ATC asked...

I second Lee's approval. :) You took a long time to get to introductions. I am never one of those who "yells at his iPod" (partially because I have an iPhone) but this time I was sitting here going, "who the heck is that talking?" I remember the same thing the first time I heard ...

Re: "David as Elmer as Bruce" UCAP #224

The 4G is claimed to not block GPS. The 4G people say that the tests which claim to block were not run on production equipment. Avweb covered it on their podcast. It sounds like we need an independent 3rd party to get involved since everyone who has looked at it has a dog in the fight.

Re: Episode 214 "Flying Seaborne Animals"

You guys have this spin all wrong. I can't wait for my PPL to have my photo on it! The term "government issued photo ID" will mean an opportunity to tell a clerk that I'm a pilot (and the clerk's manager who has to verify if they accept pilot licenses as ID.) The only time I will have to g...

Re: Episode #186

Oh, and if you have never landed night with no lights (flaps up). Get an instructor who is comfortable with it and go do it. You don't want a power failure at night to be the first time you ever try it. I have landed on an unlit runway (don't turn on pilot controlled lighting) with lights on as well...

Re: Episode #186

OK, I'll put my opinion in here (that's what the internet was made for, right?) I think that this whole controller thing is like any number of business meetings I have sat in this week where we are each trying our best to get our own goals accomplished. We don't know for sure but I would venture to ...

Re: $2.13 XM Radio

I was slack-jawed at this story. I can't fathom paying a reconnect fee when you are 1. A long-time customer with 2 planes on the plan. 2. Have a credit card on file. 3. Have an outstanding bill not worth the time time to mess with. I consider myself a pretty easy going guy, but Hal has me beat hands...

Re: Episode #173 "15 Knots of Tail"

No way that I'm buying the kid in the tower. When you first said it, I was thinking, OK, maybe. Podunk County airport. Controller Jr. is allowed to clear Uncle John for a trip around the pattern. Nothing unsafe about that. But JFK? No chance. Here is what I _will_ believe: A. Controller is a multi-t...

Re: Episode #172 "Gotta Have Skin In The Game"

On the Kulula livery, you guys missed the "money quote". Check the subtitle to the "loo". That made me laugh out loud right here in cubeville. http://www.chrisrawlinson.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/kulula_flying_101_01.jpg Unrelated but, while catching up on Dilbert, I found an...
