Re: 1st class medical with 20/25

Thanks, I'm saving that. It's definitely something I can refer to in the future. "An applicant for a medical certificate who is unable to meet the standards may be issued a certificate on a discretionary basis" I guess that's what you wanted me to see. Guess I shouldn't have to much of a p...

1st class medical with 20/25

Title just about sums it up, I'll try and keep this one brief. I have a nasty astigmatism that makes glasses pretty useless and gives doctors a lot of trouble with fitting me for contacts. After about a year long effort I finally found a doctor that could properly fit me with contacts. Compared to m...

Re: Can I fly with my eyes?

Well they just got back to me today with good news :) I'm going to need to jump through some hoops, and take a flight test but I will be issued a SODA (statement of demonstrated ability) if I pass. As long as I have that I wont have to worry about the visual requirement of the medical examination :D

Re: Episode #172 "Gotta Have Skin In The Game"

In the opening sequence to the show Ice Pilots NWT they show a sign outside a store with the temperature in big letters -40 degrees C. So, I assume the 40/40/40 rule is Celsius, not Fahrenheit. Yah know, I just came here to point that out but it seems you've beaten me to the punch :D edit: I think ...

Re: Can I fly with my eyes?

Thanks and yea I'm aware of the LSA regs, and I can probably get a 3rd class medical to. It's the 1st/2nd class ones that will be problematic, I've contacted AOPA about whats involved in a "special issuance" and i'm waiting to here back from them.

Re: Can I fly with my eyes?

Thanks for the info. Since my far vision is between 20/25 and 20/30 hopefully there is some kind of loophole that can get me passed. I'd hate to find out I have to get surgery (intacs or crosslinking) just because my vision was so slightly off.

Can I fly with my eyes?

Now that my not-so-witty title has got your attention, maybe you kind ucap folk can help me out a little. I've actually been on the forums for awhile posting here and there, and I've been listening to the show even longer than that. But sadly I am not a pilot. I am 19 and while it's been my life lon...

Re: Approach Plates on the iPad.... Anyone? Anyone?

As soon as i saw that thing the ONLY useful application that came to mind was reading charts or maybe even loading some GPS/live weather software on there :). I'm sure there will be ways to work around apples restrictions, the same way you can "jailbreak" and iPhone. After all it IS just a...
