Anyone flown around Maui lately?

I'm heading over shortly and plan to rent a 172 and do the grand tour with a few stops along the way. Any suggestions/tips?

ON field landing of the week?

The money quote "It’s not clear whether the Transportation Safety Board will get involved as the plane was never airborne." Really? How do you flip an airplane over without it leaving the ground (for a moment, anyway). http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Small+plane+flips+over+Kelowna+Interna...

Thank you so much for your comments on warbirds. It's a very fine line between honour/respect and glorifying.

Google Earth and Oshkosh

Gentlemen, Has anyone looked at the Google Earth (and Maps) image of Oshkosh lately? Looks like this was taken on Monday the 25th of this years show. While I was poking around, I noticed (excuse me if I'm a bit behind the times here) but you can go back to see the same area in 1992 (and a few years ...

Aviation story style guide?

All, I have a friend who's made some pretty interesting cross country trips in her Taylorcraft. She's entertaining thoughts of writing an article for an aviation publication, but is wondering if there is a 'style guide' out there somewhere that would help bring out the best in her material. Any sugg...

8.33kHz steps?

Hey, I was poking around on-line for some handheld radios and there was a mention in one vendors site about providing "8.33 kHz synthesizer steps for the new narrow-band channel plan". This is news to me. What, if anything, is this and how will it impact the average GA pilot? Thanks, Mike

Re: UCAP #250 “Potato Cannon”

FYI, anvil firing is part of the annual May Day celebrations here in New Westminster BC. A 21 anvil salute replaced the traditional 21 gun salute on Victoria Day 1860, after the town's cannon and status as capital of British Columbia was taken away. From 1st hand experience, it's FREAKIN' LOUD! Also...

Planes causing snow?

At first I thought this was just another case of bad mainstream press, but this appears to be legit, and very interesting.

Another freshly minted Private Pilot!

I've wanted to fly since I was knee high to a grasshopper, but like many of you know, life just gets in the way sometimes. After they pulled out a cancerous kidney 2.5 years ago, that was the kick in the pants I needed to get started. So, last week, after almost 2 years, 2 other operations, and of c...
