UAV Nav Lights

I was at a music festival this weekend in Atlanta and there was a quadracopter over the audience. The path looked cinematic so I assume it was for documentation or advertising or some such. I was a little annoyed by the distraction but what really bothered me was the nav lights. It was configured wi...

Re: Unix scripting

I've recently updated my .bash_profile and included some changes to my weather functions. One important change is the use of curl instead of wget. Curl is shipped with OSX and I didn't realize that. homebase=KAHN function metar { station=$1 if [ $# -ne 1 ]; then station=$homebase fi link=http://weat...

Re: Approach Plates on the iPad.... Anyone? Anyone?

I use Foreflight on the iPad extensively. I don't use it in the air but that's a matter of being relatively green and seeking a more traditional foundation in aviation. The thing that irritates me the most is that I cannot print plates from it. I think this is not a Foreflight issue as much as an iO...

What's in your bag?

Re: headsets

I bought a pair of Sennheiser HMEC 300 (-40db / 10 oz /600 USD) back about five years ago and they have served me well. I don't use the ANR module much as it needs batteries and the DA-20's I fly are quiet enough with just the gels. I bought a set of David Clark H10-13.4 (-23 db / 13.4 oz / 300 USD)...

Re: Is there an anti-award?

So after thinking about this overnight and reading other sources I have begun to wonder. Is this legal? Another reporter, Kelly Foster with "The Coastal Source" http://snipurl.com/wpw3z cites the passenger, the pilots mother, : "He had landed on beaches before, specifically in Alabama...

Is there an anti-award?

An interesting weeked so far here on the coast. First night here a piece of apparent rocket debris the size of a car washed ashore and now this: http://www2.wsav.com/sav/news/local/article/man_lands_plane_on_tybee_beach_ends_up_in_custody/125995/ Nothing definitive yet but the report is that a pilot...

Unix scripting

Ok I admit it this might be a bit too nerdy for most but I find it useful. This is a quick bash function for getting metar. It requires wget so if you're on a mac you'll need wget installed. Though if you really live in the shell you probably already have it. function wx { station=$1 link=http://wea...
