Pilot Refuses Full-Body Scan, Says TSA Doesn’t Make Travel S

This may not be the best way to handle it but I completely get where this pilot is coming from.

cool under pressure: pilot loses only engine at night

Follow the link to listen as a single engine pilot glides 14 miles, from 7000ft, to an airport he doesn't see, at night. This guy really kept his cool and did it right. http://media.aopa.org/mp3/n613jm.mp3

Father son Pietenpol project website

All, My 14 year old son and I (his project) are building a Pietenpol. We have created the website http://www.firstwings.net to use as a journal for the build. Anyone interested in following along please visit the site. Nothing like building wing ribs while listening to UCAP on a raining Louisiana ni...

Re: Airventure Oshkosh Meetup

Saturday might cut it a little close for those just arriving but Sunday sounds great. It would also make sense in terms of planning another gathering for later in the week.

Re: Airventure Oshkosh Meetup

Hi all, Last year was the first trip to Airventure for my son and I. We both had a great time. Our only disappointment was that we had to leave Thursday before Podapalooza. After all, it was listening to the great Airventure stories on UCAP that convinced us to make the trip. Once again we arrive on...

Re: night vision goggles for emergencies at night?

Good points all. I try to plan my night flights at 9,500 or 10,500. If I lost power in cruse I might have enough time for the goggles to be of some help in finding a field. In any case I came across the article below while googling the topic. No idea of cost yet: "This is a historical moment for...

Re: night vision goggles for emergencies at night?

Just for an emergency. This is what I am thinking. If I lost an engine: I would fly the plane, run the checklist, and hit the nearest button on the GPS. If there were an airport within glide distance then I would not bother with the goggles. If there were not an airport within glide range I would ki...

night vision goggles for emergencies at night?

I love to fly at night but am not convinced that single engine operations at night are a good idea. Good piloting is a great deal about risk management. In my part of the world I am confident during the day I can likely find somewhere to make a nonfatal landing. So here is my question: would militar...
