Re: Most iconic movie aircraft

I have to put in a vote for the B-25 Mitchell bomber. It starred in Catch 22, and just about every movie concerning the Doolittle raid... Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, Pearl Harbor, I think it was in Fat Boy & Little Boy. Plus (unknown to the general public), it made many movie shots possible as a ...

LTA OFLOTW MIA

Here's a new one... hot air balloon makes emergency landing in a Miami neighborhood... scrapes a roof but ends well. Not sure if they broke out the bubbly with the neighbors!

If The FAA Was In Charge Of Food Safety...

I was digging in the dark corners of my hard drive (that sounds... um... wrong...) and found this... I *think* I wrote it, it sounds like me, but I'm not sure about that. Figured the UCAP gang would appreciate it, though... enjoy :) -Mike IF THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION WAS IN CHARGE OF FOOD ...

Re: Nuclear aircraft engines

Air & Space that ran an article on this subject a few years ago... a nuclear ramjet that worked, and was run on the ground out in the desert... but the exhaust was so radioactive that they really couldn't actually use it for it's intended purpose... a cruise missile that could fly in loiter mode...

Re: "Almost on Top" UCAP #260

Counter-rotating props have been used very successfully. A few that come to mind are the Griffon engine/CR prop units as used on the Shackleton ASW aircraft (and which have been used on Reno racers including Precious Metal and the legendary Red Baron of the 1970's), the Fairey Gannett, and of course...

Beware The Killer Rescue Helicopters!!

This is more of an "off-field takeoffs gone wrong of the week" (OFTGWotW?) but interesting nonetheless. What is it with helicopter takeoffs causing injuries lately? The first story involves all sorts of fun: A chili festival. US Marines. Investigations. A band called "The Yams" a...

Friday Retention Pond Landing - TGIF! (Thank God It Floats!)

He alllllmost made it to the runway... great job in keeping a level head and making a great "small-pond" landing! This happened today in Rockledge, FL ... between Melbourne and Cocoa. Having floats in Florida is a good thing, there are several landable bodies of water per mile around here!...

No, supposedly just low-altitude skeeter spraying missions. They should have said, "if you look up, keep your mouth closed!"

Pay no attention to that airplane behind the curtain!

I thought this alert about mosquito spraying in Louisiana was rather... well... black-helicopterish. Sounds like some of the hyperbole from our local NIMBYs... From: http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2011/09/louisiana-aerial-operations-iberia.html Citizens will notice a low flying aircraft --- If the ai...
