Re: Aviation Apps exclusive to Ipad?

I read somewhere that it is a LOT easier for developers to write apps for the ipad or iphone than for android or Windows systems because there is only one version of the ipad/iphone hardware and software to worry about; if the app works, it works on any ipad or iphone. Android and Windows work on mu...

If you are breaking ground in order to lay cable, when we go flying would it be considered "breaking wind"? :D

Re: UCAP #250 “Potato Cannon”

Wonder if it would have made a difference if any of the flight crew of AF447 had had a Garrmin 696 or similar handheld?

Re: GA Safety versus Automobiles

Biggest difference in my mind: In the airplane, most of the risk is controllable by the pilot; if you remain familiar with all procedures, take good care of the aircraft, do a thorough preflight, know what the weather is like, and maintain situational awareness at all times, you will be OK. In the a...

Re: Apps for the non-iPhone/Pad user

Having had no bites on this one for a month, I did some research myself and found that you can get Foreflight weather, Avilution Quickweather, AirWX Aviation Weather, and Pilot My-Cast Weather in the Android app store. Anybody used any of these (probably in some other form)?

Apps for the non-iPhone/Pad user

I'm due for a new phone in the immediate future, but I'm kind of married to Verizon (it's the only carrier I can receive at work and it has the best coverage where I live). Any good Windows Mobile (don't laugh!) or Android aviation apps available that would make it worthwhile paying the $30 per mont...

Re: Episode #187

As far as getting through the gate is concerned, I was told that there is a video camera aimed at the gate and the airport management watches to make sure that cars entering the airport grounds stop just beyond the gate until it closes behind them. Supposedly your gate card can be confiscated if you...

Re: Lift/Drag Max

FYI - I went through a bunch of Aviation Safety Magazine issues over the weekend, and there is an article in the February 2010 issue that talks about "minimum descent" speed that maximizes the amount of time spent aloft as opposed to the speed that maximizes the distance that can be travel...

Re: Lift/Drag Max

I seem to recall reading or hearing somewhere that the best glide speed (max L/D) is usually very close to Vy, and that speed allows you to go the maximum distance for a given altitude. Choosing Vx, on the other hand, gives you the maximum time in the air for a given altitude. Therefore, if you are ...
