Why you should always tie down your 747

Remember the episode a few months back where the boys discussed the LSA that wasn't tied down and flipped over during some high winds?

Well check this out:

Re: How long to solo? How long to PP/SEL?

It's still possible, but as Higdon mentioned on the podcast you need to fly often. I did my PPL in 40 hours (solo in 14) in 2010 and just finished my instrument rating in 40 hours. I'm not a great stick (instructors have told me that I'm about average), but I spend a lot of time studying the books a...

Ticket wet

New logbook memory for me: I got my brand new IFR ticket wet, and survived! Flew 1.5 in actual IMC with an instrument approach. Nearly had to fly the published hold due to a slowpoke CRJ, but he sped up and I slowed down and flew the ILS 22 with the DME arc at EAU (the home of Leinies, BTW). I can't...

"Congressional Urgings" UCAP #226

I read the TFR for Disney World, and it appears that as long as ATC sends you that way it's alright. Do you suppose the two aircraft that Jack saw were on IFR flight plans to/from KISM, which is 10NM Southeast of Disney World?

Here's a link to Episode 223 on the wiki. It hasn't been completely filled in yet, but since it's a wiki you can edit it yourself.

Re: Is the TSA Scared of Herbie, the Love Bug?

The purpose of terrorism is not to cause damage; it is to cause terror. The TSA is right about that part, anyway: people are more afraid of airplanes (which they don't understand) than they are about about Ryder trucks. Hence one solution is to provide more security around airplanes. (Another soluti...

Re: Why so hard-starting in the cold?

Yesterday I returned to the field where I did my primary training (8Y6) to fly the old Warrior again. After plugging the Tanis heater in and letting it warm up for thirty minutes, I went through the normal cold-weather start procedures: prime heavily, yell "Clear!" and turn the key. Couldn...

Re: AirVenture 2011 check-in

Listen to episode 197, where Jack, Jeb, and Dave share their secrets. I followed their recommendations last year and had a very pleasant time.

My personal favorite recommendation: comfortable shoes.
