Re: Approach Plates on the iPad.... Anyone? Anyone?

Addressing using approach plates on the iPad specifically: 1. ForeFlight - $75 / year. Best application for approach plates, ease of use, quick to find. I use the iPad as EFB (part 91 class 1 or 2 EFB) in hard IFR and foreflight is great for workload, easy to find plates, search, etc.... Easier than...

Re: What Watch

Don't forget the Torgoen series watches.

With all the power in my panel these days, (ie: no personal need for E6B watch functions) all I really wanted was easy to read GMT. I have the T05 in white, love it.

Re: Any traffic, please advise

Hey Champ and PIlotGuy, Yea I read the regs too when I got home, they were clear to me. This post just reminded me of the incident, so I thought I would see what input there is out there. I always had the belief the way Champ put it works well with part 91 on how things should go down. I just couldn...

Re: Entering an Unfamiliar Traffic Pattern

in regards to pilotbill's diagram, my questions would be: 1. if rcigliano is unfamiliar (as the post states) wouldn't we be taught to fly an upwind leg, crosswind, downwind, base, final? 2. if he monitors traffic 30 out (Dave H), and knows the pattern is clear, he is super familiar with terrain (not...

Re: Any traffic, please advise

joemurphy, In your situation, if you were on an IFR flightplan flying the approach, when the VFR traffic in the pattern hear your announcement wouldn't they be obligated to give you the right away? So IF it was a perfect world, you would not need the phrase "any traffic please advise" beca...

Re: Clearance Delivery @ non-towered fields

Hey Soakingpilot, FWIW, I fly out of (depart from) quite a few non-towered fields here in Michigan which do not have published approaches, therefore no published clearance delivery freq's. The next best thing is to get the phone number of the nearest tower or ARTCC. They will give you a clearance ov...

Re: Buying an Aviation Handheld Radio

I use the VXA-300 Pilot III handheld. Love it. powerful 5 watts transmit, sturdy aluminum body, smaller easy to carry form-factor. I find the UI easy to use, and once you have it set up most features are controlled via the two top knobs!! When I am about 10 miles out, tower tells me I'm 5 and 9 most...

Re: Garmin 696

Jeb and gang, Uncontrolled Forums users, Great video, shows a few of the 696’s great strengths! I thought I would add and additional assessment of the 696. Previously, I flew with the AvMap EKP IV, and loved it. I most enjoyed the huge display screen with lots of map real estate which helps with sit...
