FlightAware knows when you’re flying- here’s how

Episode 498 had Jack, Dave, and Jeb discussing FlightAware tracking our flight paths even when we’re VFR in the boonies away from any major airport. If you wanna know how FlightAware has figured out your flight path when you’re at low altitude VFR in the middle of nowhere, this is how they're doing ...

Re: Lake vs Pond conundrum.

If you can fly a Cub with floats off it: It's a Lake.

If you can fly a Lake LA4 off it: It's definitely a Lake...

Anything smaller is a Pond...especially if there's an island in the middle.

Re: Ep#333- Collisions with Animals

Back in 1971 two friends of mine were flying via Bonanza from CLT to a farm/ranch airport southeast of RDU. I refreshed my memory by looking at the accident report and it helped me recall that this occurred 11/30 at about 1815 local; a bit past sundown. The pilot was taking our friend/part-time boss...

Re: My First Purchase Experience: Lessons Learned

C5Guy, I appreciated you sharing your experiences with us. A very well organized, thought-out process on your part. I do quite a bit of business with auto dealers, and one guy told me that out of 30 buyers, 1 will take what is usually an emotional decision and turn it into a rational act. Congrats o...

Re: I bought a plane! (and you guys are to blame)

The photos you posted tell the story- it's obviously a very clean airplane. Congratulations. My neighbor (14A) recently bought a 177 and is loving it, too.

Re: Best player for Podcasts? Old Ipod caught fire...

Hey Champguy, I'm thinking about a generic player- I have one somewhere that runs off a AAA battery. I'll root around in the dresser drawer and see if it might do that- it just doesn't have alot of memory. And setting up Playlist? I've heard I could do this but since I don't have much music saved (e...

Best player for Podcasts? Old Ipod caught fire...

My no-longer-trusty Ipod 5th Gen died an ignominious and smoky death yesterday while I was travelling to Winston Salem. Riding along, I smelled printed circuit board cooking, OMG! and I started hunting around for the source....happened to look down at the Ipod and noticed the plastic faceplate begin...
