UCAP443 - Domestic Dispute Landing

Phew - now that all that spambot nonsense has been done away with... glad I saw it relatively early and alerted you Jack! NOW... Ponds vs. Lakes  I grew up in Maine, and we have a lot of them! I can tell you that there is no true distinction for the naming convention of what body of water c...

Re: UCAP #442 - Bushing Migration

Terry, "People's Republic of Clarke County" is very telling in itself of the mindset and political demographic of the local government there - handouts for all who have their hand out. It's sad that the Airport Authority can't operate as autonomously as it should -- that's why Authorities ...

Re: UCAP #442 - Bushing Migration

Jim, I enjoyed Mike's interview also, and although I'm not a mechanic, I was able to get a real good sense of the issue with the bushing. What also caught my attention was the portion where he talked about gathering the engine performance data to see what trended before failures. I'm no data analyst...

UCAP #442 - Bushing Migration

So what's up with the statements about 'regrouping our podcast creative breaths' and 'organizing some stuff to take UCAP forward'? That sounds like there is a major change coming to UCAP. Is the podcast reaching the end of its allotted life? :( Dang, I was looking forward to hanging out with you guy...

Vans RV-14

Went to a local fly-in today in Georgia, Wrens Memorial Airport (65J). Saw my first RV-14!

Beautiful aircraft, could have rolled off the assembly line just like a Cirrus or Cessna 350. All glass cockpit, LED everything, metal fleck paintjob, the works!!

Re: ADS B (Pressure altitude vs. geometric)

David, The primary reason is that GPS height data can still be 10% inaccurate, as opposed the baro-based height (if the correct pressure is dialed into the altimeter) Here is a pretty decent explanation of the difference between the two. http://www.bhgcomps.uk/content/differences-between-pressure-an...

Re: UCAP #439 - "Turned Up To Eleven"

Want to bust a TFR, with no RADAR, no problem, turn off your ADS/B sqwaker and you are invisible. A very good point. Also, isn't the discrete IFF code activated by radar sweeps? An enemy isn't going to just turn-off the ADS-B out (if they have it) and hope they can penetrate the ADIZ. That's what R...
