Re: "Rookery" UCAP425
I think the wake turbulence incident was caused in part by the the two planes being just 1000 feet apart vertically, but on precisely the same GPS-calculated airway -- in other words, directly one above the other. In the old days of round dials and steam gauges, it would have been unlikely that two ...

Re: Thrust & Drag UCAP388
To provide a little more information, anyone in the Washington DC area -- and especially anyone at Dulles Airport's terminals -- who wants to visit the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian Institution can take public transportation to the Center. From the "Ground Transportation" ...

Re: "Replicant" UCAP #364
A careful reading of the FAA letter https://www.scribd.com/doc/236884814/FAA-Ruling-Banning-Planesharing indicates that "...a pilot may accept compensation in the form of a pro rata share of operating expenses for a flight from his or her passengers..." However, the "holding out"...
Re: Ep 365?
First, if you don't believe that General Aviation can be shut out of normal airspace, just try flying your little Cessna to KDCA. We must always be vigilant about encroachments on our right to flight. Second, Jack mentioned Skybox Imaging and Google -- go to the Skybox website (http://www.skyboximag...

"Morgan Fairchild" - UCAP #360
With reference to the list of "Ten Things You Don't See At Airports" anymore: -- Baggage Carts -- in most European airports, there are free, small trolleys you can use while moving around the terminal after going through security. Why? Because they have figured out that people spend more m...

Re: Future Podcast Topic - Customs Checks of GA?
Delighted to hear my local NPR station broadcast a very honest story this morning (May 28) about the Customs and Border Patrol stopping innocent GA pilots and searching their airplanes. CPB does this with no explanation and without probable cause, reason or a legal basis. And it has been going on fo...

Google Glass in the Cockpit?
Has anyone given thought to putting the ForeFlight display on Google Glass for pilots? It would mean no more need to look down at your laptop. You could think of it as a truly "heads up" display? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/08/technology/google-begins-a-push-to-take-glass-to-work.html?hp

Re: "Primary Target" UCAP #352
Jack, Are you aware that because of slippery conditions caused by melt on top of the ice, several planes at Alton Bay this year had trouble on the runway, including a pretty bad crack up of N12979, a Fisher Dakota Hawk. I think a Cirrus might have suffered too. There's a picture at https://www.cirru...

Tragedy at Dayton
There was terrible news reported last night about wing walker Jane Wicker and pilot Charlie Schenker who both died yesterday in a crash at the Dayton Air Show. They were real pros, wonderful people, and they loved the work they did. My wife and I last saw them perform in Punta Gorda, Florida at the ...

Callback #401
I would love to hear you guys talk about STARs and SIDS - this Callback issue simply unlined how complicated they can be for single pilot IFR flying.
