So who is responsible?

A story in the L A Times takes the issue one step further: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-auto-drone-20120126,0,740306.story New drone has no pilot anywhere, so who's accountable? The Navy is testing an autonomous plane that will land on an aircraft carrier. The prospect of heavily armed airc...

How long to solo? How long to PP/SEL?

I was struck the other night when, at a dinner, a number of fifty- and sixty-year-old pilots happened to mention that they did their first solo at seven hours, or nine hours. As for me, I solo-ed about five years ago at about 30 hours. I don't know any pilot who got their license in the last five ye...

Re: new from Military.com : re - Lightsquared

This is nearly unbelievable:

Re: Episode #263 "The Middle People"

Holly Run to Tangier Island Just to bring you guys up to date, this year's annual "Holly Run" to bring the greens by airplane to isolated Tangier Island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay saw 45 airplanes participate. That's a lot more than the "ten or fifteen" that Jeb remembe...

Commercial Pilot

A little happiness here, as I passed my checkride and am now a Commercial Pilot. No danger that I'll take jobs from the United and Delta folks, but it is an accomplishment I simply wanted to do.

But, it would really be fun to get paid to fly!

Re: Who will be the new FAA administrator?

The real issue now is who follows Babbitt as Administrator. I think we would be well served to have a genuine American aviation hero such as Capt. Sullenberger in the job -- a guy who successfully ditched his plane in the Hudson and saved the lives of all aboard. If you agree, go to the White House ...

I too have a grandson who is a budding aviator (I hope) -- where did you get the child-size earphones?

Re: Pilot ditches 310 off of Hawaii

Yeah, but what do they have for journalists in Hawaii? How come no one has asked this pilot what went wrong? So far, not a single story has explained how anyone can take off on a cross-water flight and miscalculate the fuel needed. Are you not supposed to land with at least 30 minute's worth of fuel...

Re: Last Episode 6/27??

It's a mystery, but episodes 248, 249 and 250 suddenly appeared this weekend (October 15-16) in my iTunes, and were duly sucked into my iPhone. I kind of wondered why you skipped some episodes....
