Re: AirVenture newbie looking for advice

Gotta say, I'm *SO* looking forward to getting over to Osh11 and meeting everyone. I hear it's about the people as well as the aircraft but being at an airport with more aircraft than on the entire register here in Australia, well, that popping sound will be my brain trying to reboot as it attempts...

Re: Senator Inhofe - Again

The NOTAM bit is interesting... so if it was easier the senator would have gotten the NOTAMs?? Really? All he had to do was call the briefer and ASK! We don't have that luxury here, we have to get the computer to give us the NOTAMs and sift through them all to see what actually is applicable for the...

Re: CF-Squared UCAP #239

Well I would hope that the ATC is vectoring you to clear air, not into another aircraft (otherwise they are REALLY bad at their job!). Early TCAS had big issues with large climb rates to vertically separated levels (1000ft) it seems to have been fixed a bit in later versions also I think autopilot b...

Re: CF-Squared UCAP #239

Have a look at some of the youtube clips of nose-nose high-altitude jet passings (with the required vertical separation in place!)... it happens scary quick when you have "900knots closure" as Goose would put it. The radar update rate in enroute is about 5 seconds, and for a nose-nose jet ...

Re: CF-Squared UCAP #239

TCAS has the floor if it produces an RA, our phraseology has the simple response to ATC of "Unable, TCAS RA" and that's it... at that point you have to just sit and watch... some praying wouldn't hurt. Although TCAS only resolves in the vertical, so don't ignore the ATC, as they'll likely ...

Re: Google Earth captures KC-135 Take Off

That's awesome!

I think it's a perspective thing too, since the shadow remains near centreline all the time.

Re: AirVenture newbie looking for advice

You know Steve, there's this guy that has a Debbie that lives in an undisclosed location in Florida who I'm pretty sure will be at OSH... Let me know the flight numbers you two 'characters' are flying on ex MEL... Remember we control the vertical and we control the horizontal... literally! Hmm in fa...

Re: Chile Volcanic Ash

Well according to our national ops people, this is actually the second lap of the original cloud!

Worse still they think it may last for a third lap!

Re: "Battens Out the Wazoo" UCAP #237

I dunno, reading it cold: (B) That is at least a straight-line distance of more than 50 nautical miles from the original point of departure; Doesn't specify where you measure the 50nm... is that at the destination or the entire route flown? Because that obviously changes the answer! As far as: That ...
