Re: Episode #182 "Jeb's Home for Wayward Pilots

Lucaberta... I enjoyed hearing you on the podcast. You're well spoken with good inflection for "radio". Nice job. Thanks, but now I am blushing...  Now the hardest job will be to convince the guys to have a european correspondant as a regular guest on the podcast... Cia...

Re: GPS Backup

Not sure Galileo will be a viable backup solution to GPS, as they are the same satellite-based technology after all. In case of some local jamming of the frequencies where both systems operate, they will both be unavailable, and that is not a good thing... :? And before we say anything about Galileo...

Re: How airspace reboots after volcano erupts

Are SW France and Spain that void of air traffic, or is it just the coverage shown in this video? it's due to coverage, DJT. There are many different networks of stations at this time in Europe, and some touch the USA too, and most notably the french and the spanish have their own network. Of cours...

Re: Episode #182 "Jeb's Home for Wayward Pilots

That pesky volcano caused me to be stuck on the other side of the Atlantic for an extra week. No sun and no fun for me. well Ruckin, at least you live on the right side of the pond almost every day of the year, while I only visit from time to time... and always hate it when I have to head back home...

Re: Wilco Films Contest?

Met Will and Rico in person, finally, at Sun and Fun. They have had some difficult times during the winter, and Sun and Fun was their first true comeback into the endeavour they have started a while back. They have some cash problems, so bear with them, or better send some money their way... it will...

Re: How airspace reboots after volcano erupts

Glad to see that my ADS-B data has been used for a nice purpose... I have a ground station that receives the live ADS-B traffic on 1090 MHz, and sends it to the server used to create that animation, which is: http://www.flightradar24.com If you look for the traffic in northern Italy, it's stuff that...

Tri-colored VASI

In my recent trip to the East (coast) I had the opportunity to take a unique picture of a very old-fashioned device that I was sure would not be still in use anywhere beyond the Iron Curtain. Here it is: http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/5319/img71709870782.jpg You can find the definition on Wikipe...

Re: Episode #182 "Jeb's Home for Wayward Pilots

It was fun to listen to the podcast that I knew was done just as I was out visiting with friends in Tampa. In all fairness, I did go to Tampa for a few good reasons, the most important one is being away from home did allow Skype to work a whole lot better on the crummy Internet connection that Jeb h...

Re: Buying an Aviation Handheld Radio

If you don't need NAV, and to tell you the truth I believe most people don't these days, you can go for the Icom A6. I bought one at Sun and Fun and Icom gracefully provided with a nice bag too, all for $229.99. Don't recall the price of the A24, but it was surely higher and, IMHO, not worth the ext...
