Re: For Jack and other iPhone, fans...

AOPA's Airport Directory -- now iPhone compatible... Check it out here: I'd add that the app does requires AOPA membership (not saying it's a bad thing, just a consideration for people looking at it who might not be members) The same functionality is supposed to be added ...

Sun 'n Fun purchases? Interesting things?

So there were at least a few of us down at Sun 'n Fun this past week. What cool and interesting things did you see? Did you end up buying anything? I got a chance to play with a Garmin 696, which is a neat tool, but probably more than I need at the moment, especially for the price. I renewed my subs...

Re: Airventure Oshkosh Meetup

I'm planning on arriving Wed night, but not early enough to make a get-together, unfortunately. Out of self-interest, I'd vote for having one a bit later in the week if possible. :)

Re: VFR flight planning software for MAC

If you're an AOPA member, there's the AOPA Internet Flight planner at Even though I'm mostly a Mac person, I broke down and bought Voyager at Sun 'n Fun. It looked very impressive as they ran it through their demo; now I need to figure out how to make it jump through the hoo...

Re: Challenging Airports

I haven't been there, but I hear that Tangier Island Airport (KTGI) out in the Chesapeake Bay was interesting with a bump in the runway until they repaved it recently. There's also the note from the A/FD: BE ALERT: RSTD AREA ONE MI WEST OF ARPT; HI-SPEED ACFT DROP BOMBS & FIRE LIVE AMUNITION IN ...

Re: Hello and getting started

I have anothe suggestion, post on forums asking for advice on which FBOs are good at the airports you are interested. Don't only post here but post on AOPA forums (you need to be a member but you should be one any way) or Piots of America, to name just two. And you can get 6 months of AOPA membersh...

Re: Pilot/Controller...and CFI-by-remote...

NATCA has the audio & transcripts of all the award winners here; this specific one was for the Southwest Region. Lots of other interesting ones there as well.

Episode #121 "Just A Crooked Rudder"

I had to pause the podcast after hearing the US Airways Club described as "super-duper" to finish laughing. I joined this past year because of a deal they were offering that gave me the miles I needed for 2008 to push me over the limit for "Preferred Gold" status. It really isn't...

Re: "Crazy is..."

I wonder why they didn't just stop the prop of the descending aircraft; did they need it running for it to count as "airplane to airplane"? Given the alititude they were at, even if you couldn't restart you have lots of choices, and the risk to life of an engine not restarting seems lower ...

Re: available..

I'm curious why you don't see partnerships shares up for sale very often in Trade-A-Plane and the like. My impression as a new pilot is that they are mostly traded by word-of-mouth and on sometimes on local airport bulletin boards. The obvious answer is that they are location sensitive, since the pl...
