Tricopter

Jack, You've mentioned a couple of times you're enjoying your R/C Quadra-copter. Thought you might be interested in what a bunch of Medical device engineers can concoct :D A fellow engineer at ConMed is taking a stab at re-engineering a tri-copter design with a different IMU. http://www.youtube.com/...

Re: Episode #220 "Katie is a Private Pilot!"

Sorry I missed the Sebring meetup.

Riga... Lakeland is always a great stop with a fine restaurant on field. I'd be up for a mini-meetup there. :D

Re: Hard-working controller...tough day at JFK...

I thought this ATC clip was awesome!
I also thought this controller did a great job of keeping his composure, all things considered.
This is clip is actually duplicated by several people on YouTube... and some of the comments from people are just plain ignorant.

Denver, the place I thought I knew

I just got back from a business trip (flying commercial, sadly). But during my 8 days in the Denver area I learned a lot. I learned that what I thought I knew about Denver, wasn't true. My hotel was in the southern part of Denver directly adjacent to the Centennial Airport. This airport was a BUSY l...

Re: "Amy's Ditching" UCAP Hangar Classics #001

Bar none, this was my favorite episode. I was happy to see that you re-released it for your summer break. Not to be patronizing, but I learned much from that 30 minutes of audio when you first recorded it. It changed they way I pre-flight, and it changed my view of travel over water. In Florida it's...

Re: Episode #204 "Never Boozled"

Regarding the OFLW Guys I think I have to agree with you on one point that if I flight over significant water, I always have at least PFDs on boards for all occupants. I do this every time I cross Florida Bay to Key West. Like you said, WTF!!?? But if I were doing T&G's at KEYW, I don't believe ...

Re: Switching tanks

Flying a Cherokee, my instructor taught me 30 minutes on one side then one hour on the opposite side, and so on... I run a timer to remind me, plus I place red marks on my flight plan or chart at the approximate intervals. So far, it's worked for me. PS - and Bill, I was taught to hit the "imag...

Re: If it were easy or cheap... everyone would do it.

You broke the code -- now you can reap (fly) the results...waytogo! Dave Ironically... the plane(s) I prefer to fly (Cherokee's, Warriors... basically PA28's) are VERY AFFORDABLE on the used market now. I just can't budget the ancillary items like: A place to put it, the annuals, insurance... No ma...

If it were easy or cheap... everyone would do it.

Dave, it hurts to admit... I agree. In 3 years I have been successful in sparking interest, but no one yet has been willing to save up (as I did) to do it. What's worse is the "pie in the sky" offering of Light Sport. The thought was that this would bring flying to a more affordable price ...
