Nashua NH Meetup?

It's been a long time since we've had a meetup. Any interest in having one at the Nashua, NH airport on Saturday, December 5?

Boston to OSH 2015

After scratch-building my Sonex I finally got to fly it out to OSH this year! The engine is an AeroVee (VW conversion), 80hp. 110-115mph average airspeed, burning 4.4 gallons per hour. On the way out I got stuck for a night in Knox, IN (OXI) at a very nice FBO. They let me spend the night on the cou...

Re: Hangars & Non-Aviation Use

I think you're right, and I agree with the basis of what the FAA is trying to do, but the part about picking and choosing an allowable stage of construction to allow a homebuilt into a hangar is just so misguided! There are more homebuilts hitting the US registry every year now than there are certif...

Hangars & Non-Aviation Use

If you have an opinion, and you have not already commented on aspects of this serious FAA proposed rule, you have more time, but don't wait. Do it now :-) With no available hangars at my airport, and running $500/month if you can get one, I do find myself agreeing that some non-aviation uses would b...

Ep 362 Cylinder ADs

Since you were talking about cylinder AD's, I'm sure many of you have read this, but it's worth noting again that often it's not the cylinders themselves that are the issue, but the installation. http://www.sportaviationonline.org/sportaviation/201302/?pg=30#pg30 The FAA is, once again, focusing on ...

Handheld Comm Story

I used to write out some of my memorable flights. I found this one while I was going through my hard drive. It's a good "why I fly with a handheld comm" story: Several years ago I was flying with two other pilots at night, in perfectly clear VMC conditions, in a C-172. I was in the right s...

Next UCAP meetup at Stow!

Actually, Nancy's Airfield Cafe at Stow is an awesome restaurant! And the runway was just repaved last week. I was one of the first planes to fly off of it on that first flight. I know I was the first tail dragger :-)

MY newest airplane

On Saturday, June 21, 2014, Sonex N439M made it's first flight from the 6B6 Minuteman airport in Stow, MA. The AeroVee powered, standard gear, plans-built aircraft flew perfectly during it's 20 minute flight. Thanks to all my friends who helped over the last five years, and especially to my wife Gai...
