Re: Episode #284 "Too Much Wx Talk"

Just a thought ... any chance all these UAV's will be subject to user fees???

That's right - I went there.

Re: Planning for Oshkosh anyone?

ARFlyer - I'm betting that rule from your flight department head is more to give his CFI's a free ride into Oshkosh than it is a safety factor :D . Either way - if that rule is standing in your way, see if they'll let you fly into one of the neighboring airports. I've flown into Appleton and Fond du...

Re: Episode #281 "A Dead Bee"

I've come to consider the verbiage of 91.103 to be deliberately vague. We're told that, before beginning a flight we should "become familiar with all available information concerning that flight." It is impossible to interpret that FAR literally. There's an awful lot of information availab...

Re: Long weekend at the beach

Thanks! Finally managed to download my photos from the camera. My wife still likes to take pictures of clouds (even I have to admit that, after a while, they start to look the same.) I'll have to divide my personal favorite set into two posts to provide the full effect - sorry for the breach of foru...

Long weekend at the beach

It's been a pretty stressful year at work. So much so, my wife and I decided to not take a formal family vacation this summer (don't worry, I won't miss Oshkosh). As a consolation, we vowed to make use of those few weekends we each have off to the fullest. Now, mind you, growing up and living in Ohi...

WMU's ... VERY funny!

I think I need everybody here to be on board with this one. If my wife asks ... I spent MORE on the countertops ;)

Now we're flying /G

My dad and I own a '77 Grumman Tiger. For some time, we've been contemplating upgrading our /U panel (King 170/175, ADF, Mode C transponder) and installing a 430w. Being ever so close to taking the plunge, Garmin decides to announce their new GTN series. It was fate. This weekend we took our first f...

Re: Soon-to-be-student

Previously, I would fly with a typical flight bag. Recently I experienced a moment of lucidity and got a "pilot's caddy" from Sporty's. http://sportys.com/PilotShop/product/11883 Turns out, even during long IFR cross country flights, I've found that I never need most of the stuff in my fli...

Re: Flying to Maine

Sorry - didn't mean to confuse. I am IFR rated. But my rating is only about 2 yrs old, so dense fog, with wife and two kids on board, exceeds my personal minimums. Given the distance we're flying (from Central Ohio) I'll definitely file IFR to and from with fuel stops at Westfield, MA or Schenectady...
