Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

Case in point. Note that this airport has been caught up in the middle of a huge effort by NIMBY neighbors to have it shut down or otherwise hobbled. Imagine the same article about an SP-oriented school and how many more folks would actually consider checking it out at half the prices and times quot...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

Now I haven't been active in it for almost a decade now, but when I got my amateur radio license in 1991, both my instructor (or "elmer" as hams say) and all the training materials on the market beat it into the newbies that a HUGE part of the activity/hobby was promoting it positively, he...

Public Aircraft - FAA certificate required?

The Palm Bay (FL) Police have gained some notoriety (mostly disdain, actually) for using Powered Parachutes for... well, nobody's sure why, although the populace is pretty well convinced that it's mostly a tax-funded boondoggle and the PD paying for a few cops to indulge in their hobby on the public...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

I believe the only way to change this is for all instructors to hear facts from the AOPA, EAA, etc. in a format that will make many if not most of them feel like it's crazy for them NOT to join in the Sport Pilot world. I know many instructors aren't involved with NAFI, SAFE, EAA, FAAST, etc. but en...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

I think that maybe the best way we could encourage participation in GA is to put our money and time where our mouths are. Young Eagles is a great example of this. Heck, the UCAP broadcast is a great example of this! But, what if our response to the cost question was, "Well, it's affordable eno...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

I'd hope, big time, that we wouldn't make any such blanket statements that tarred the Experimental community Dave, I didn't take it that way at all. I think it was, at most, a case of slightly unclear context during an interesting discussion... I never thought for a minute that you guys were anti-e...

Re: Episode #158 "Mach Point Five Six"

Couple of comments on the last episode... First, as for the cost of learning to fly... I haven't started, yet, so I can't quote too many numbers, but I have been extremely involved in the local aviation community for many years. Last week, one of our local pilot associations had their yearly meeting...
