Re: Paul H Poberezny 1921 - 2013

I never met Mr. Poberezny. My only encounter was seeing him drive Red One at my first AirVenture. We were over in the Warbirds and we made eye contact and exchanged smiles. It was just a glance but it gave me instant insight into a seasoned and kind soul who cared about people. That quick nod was no...

Dave won't fly it but TurboEddie might

Friends of mine saw this contraption being towed and set down by a helicopter. Gives new meaning to the term "chopper blades." Unable to sleep I found an article about this zombie killing device. Be sure to look how close he gets to the power lines. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro...

New "All You Can Fly" Airline Service

This is a new one to me. It will be interesting to see where this goes. They currently have one aircraft and 4,500 people on their waiting list.

Ever heard of a "Heat Burst?"

This is an interesting phenomenon I must have missed during the weather section in flight school. I've never heard of this and I can imagine it would be quite confusing to a pilot flying into one of these. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=gid&storyid=95313&source=0 -Sven

Re: Valdez Fly-In: You guys should go

We'd love to see you out here in the Valley of Speed at Reno for the 50th anniversary! It's just like Oshkosh without the fly-in, bugs and humidity. I'd even be happy to stand in for any missing Musketeers for a UCAP daily.

Comedy in the sky

This picture was taken in L.A. today. I guess comedian Kurt Braunohler paid the pilot to write this.

You can purchase Air Force One

This served as Air Force Two and may have served as Air Force One, according to the description. It's your's for a starting bid of $50k.

ADS-B In/Out question

Will the new Mode S transponders using ADS-B out continue transmit a squawk code? I'm assuming they won't since your aircraft # is unique therefore ATC won't need you to squawk a transponder code. If that's the case what happens if a pilot needs to transmit a 7500, 7600 or 7700?

Crash with kids onboard

By now you've probably heard about the crash of a Mooney in New Mexico. It's never a good idea to draw conclusions but this accident really bothers me on two levels. First, I'm not a high time pilot and I drive a Mooney. I would never depart a high elevation runway (8380 ft.) with a direct crosswind...

Graves on a Runway

USA Today, long the bane of all things aviation, published another aviation article last Wednesday. The point of the article was that airport lands used to be used for something different. Duh. So was my house and our school and grocery store. What caught my interest was at the end of the story. It'...
