DUATS Under Threat?

The DUATS Flyer in the June issue of AOPA Pilot states that DUATS i under threat of FAA cancellation. The flyer encourages readers to go to their website to learn more and contact their congressman. However, when I went to http://www.duats.com to learn more about the issue, there appears to be no in...

Re: NexGen support for GA...yes, no, maybe???

Just read an article on AvWeb that makes a case for moving to ADS-B sooner rather than later. It also points to 2019 as a potentially good time to buy an aircraft, or maybe a second?

Re: "Bemused and Confused" UCAP #356

Tom, Great post on ADS-B. There is an interesting article on AvWeb by Rick Durden which makes the case for complying with the FAA mandate now rather than later. For the budget-minded, since only ADS-B out will be mandated, the more efficient option might be to equip the aircraft with "out"...

Sleep Apnea Rulemaking

The house passed a bill forcing the FAA to proceed via the rulemaking process with respect to sleep apnea in aeromedical certification. See Avweb: http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/House-Passes-Sleep-Apnea-Rulemaking-Bill221432-1.html Kind of nice when our elected and non-elected officials are co...

Re: What should we return to?

Affordable flying -- I really enjoyed the segments you've done on airplanes for sale within the average working man's or woman's reach. Beyond just airplanes for sale is the cost of flying, insuring and maintaining that airplane. As former/current airplane owners, perhaps Dave and Jeb can provide so...

Re: Most iconic movie aircraft

Air Force One, starring Harrison Ford.

For the movie, they used a 747 from Kalitta Air Cargo to star as Air Force One:

Re: Research Paper on ADS-B vs. Current ATC System

I am sorry I did not see your post earlier. I'm sure you already completed your paper - very challenging topic for a high-school paper. I applaud your efforts! I suggest you conduct a search of Blended Airspace or Virtual Tower concepts. SAAB is developing Virtual Tower technologies. The State of Co...

Re: Ep#333

I have not heard this episode yet, but will this week on my commute to work. I agree completely with see-and-avoid. I also recognize that a mix of dissimilar aircraft types in the terminal area complicates see-and-avoid. The reality of our transport category cockpit is that limited cockpit visibilit...

Re: Planes [movie]

Enjoyable movie. I took my 4 kids, ages 11, 9, 5 and 5, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. We have the iPhone app, which the older kids also enjoy. Typical of Disney's success model, they are likely to precipitate games, toys, and McDonald's Happy Meal prizes into the marketplace based on the Planes mo...

Re: #329

Jeb and Dave - Nicely said. Dave with his nimble use of the language and Jeb with his spot on logic. Isn't it curious that the mystery of the accident in the immediate wake of the event generates the most viewership because of just what Dave said. 18 months later when the final report is released, t...
