Re: #329

In my position as a Manager of Flight Ops Safety and 757 Check Airman for a national airline, people tend to pepper me with questions regarding the Asiana accident, thinking that I possess inside information. However, I tend to refrain from drawing conclusions and prefer to await the accident report...

Re: Recovered Data

How soon will ADSB become an effective resource for Big Brother? I think the temptation to capture the data for each flight will be irresistible to them.....

New Secretary of Transportation

It appears we will soon have a new Secretary of Transportation. Young guy moving up fast. Good for him. He does not appear to have any aviation background, but isn't that is fairly common for a cabinet level position? Curious to know from the gang how he might impact the FAA and aviation in general....

Re: Ep# 318

As one flys across the southwest paralleling the US - Mexico boarder, a string of balloons is placed at regular intervals. If you have a terrain feature in a GPWS database, they show up as 15,000 foot obstructions. At night, you can notice the distinctive square light pattern on the ground marking t...

Re: Ep# 319

A note on the discussion of tower closings due to sequestration. Our airline will see 17 of the 80+ airports in our route structure turn into uncontrolled airports. Granted, our business model provides service to customers in second tier markets. Our risk assessment concluded that there will be a sm...

Re: Callback #397 - is about UAVs

Folks, This is a serious issue and I encourage everyone to read this issue of the NASA ASRS CallBack as the previous post suggested: http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/docs/cb/cb_397.pdf It appears that the FAA is far behind the regulatory power curve with respect to maintaing some kind of control on these sy...

Re: 16-Yr FA: "The level of passengers has been degrading."

It was a pleasure to fly cargo for many years, but now I find myself at a passenger carrier. From my perspective, the positive is that flying today is available to the middle and lower income level folks. In earlier times it was not and was out of many people's reach. The negative is that for this r...

Re: Ep. #311 - ADS-B without the ADS-B Out

Back to the topic of ADS-B, anyone know if 2020 is a hard date or is there some flexibility in the timeline? 7 years out, if I buy a unit today it will be out-of-date by the time 2020 arrives. Best to wait about 6 years?

Jeb usually has a good perspective on issues of regulatory import....
