Re: Ep. #311 - ADS-B without the ADS-B Out

All, We all need to remember that our political opinions are just that - opinions, not fact. I have been wrong in some of my opinions in the past and have had to change some of my views, which means I am probably wrong in some of my opinions today and will someday have to again adjust. The same is t...

Re: I bought a plane! (and you guys are to blame)

I have always loved the Cardinal, one of the more pleasing forms in the Cessna line. The ailerons have a more crisp response, and the setback of the wing provides for extra visibility in the turn.

Enjoy! And as Jeb says.....Pictures!

Re: Man gets 5 month sentence for shining laser at helicopter

One of our MD-80 crewmembers was recently struck by a green laser while on a visual approach at night. After landing, he was unable to continue his trip due to after effects in his vision. By the time he arrived in the ER for treatment, the FBI was there to meet him for an interview!

Re: Air-to-air Frequncies

Be careful if you use 123.45 near the coast. That's the oceanic air-to-air frequency. Crews crossing over to Hawaii monitor it to pass along ride reports, coordinate altitudes, and get updates on sports scores.....important stuff like that....

Re: Perfect Storm

Very true what you say about the pay scales. I have some friends who have taken those jobs after being furloughed. The problem for most is that the character and quality of life is very different from what westerners typically prefer, especially those with a family. It's not for everyone, hence the ...

Perfect Storm

Consider the following: The age 65 rule is now about to turn 5, meaning that the industry retirements previously on hold will resume. Evidence exists that some aspects of the economy are improving. The FAA's new rest rules for certificate holders will require an estimated 5% increase of pilot staffi...

Re: Man gets 5 month sentence for shining laser at helicopter

Laser strikes are on the rise, almost exponential, and they are a threat. Twice in the last year crews at our airline suffered laser strikes severe enough that they took the precaution to go to the hospital for examination. Thankfully, they recovered, but in each case their eyesight was affected eno...

Re: EAA

Regarding the suggestion to merge EAA and AOPA, as one who built an airplane from plans, I remember when the EAA was mostly about homebuilt aviation, with advocacy and other efforts an aside, and AOPA was the advocacy entity. Would the combination of the two continue the move away from grass-roots a...

NOTAM

We know that the Pilot's Bill of Rights includes a much-needed mandate to overhaul the NOTAM system. Just wondering if anyone in the UCAP Hangar with connections with the FAA has any insights of the direction they will be taking with this. Improvement can't come too soon. 26 pages of NOTAMS written ...

Re: ELT Irony

I just have to chime in on one aspect of your post: Does the FAA know what the FAA is doing? Hardly. In my airline job, when we asked a gathering of local, regional and Washington Feds the application of a specific Part 121 regulation, we received a mixture of blank stares and conflicting answers. T...
