Not sure Galileo will be a viable backup solution to GPS, as they are the same satellite-based technology after all. In case of some local jamming of the frequencies where both systems operate, they will both be unavailable, and that is not a good thing... :?

And before we say anything about Galileo, I'd like to see a semi-operational constellation in space, but I am not holding my breath... being european I know that what takes 20 years to happen in the USA, might take 40 years in Europe! :roll:
