GPS Vulnerability

The fact that it is so easy to get into this much trouble is one lesson to be learned.
The other is that it would be so easy to cause incredible damage if that was your intention.
While I carry two GPS receivers, my only back up for some kind of outage is to fly lower, slower, and to drag out the sectional while looking for town names on hillsides and water towers. Not much of a solution for most of GA, let alone the big scary "human mailing tubes".
It is hard to have much confidence that the badges, flack jackets, guns, and boots on the ground we are seeing are going to give much "homeland security" when some whack job with a grudge picks this as a way to protest his treatment at some airline ticket counter.

This is really scary. I was at a pilot meeting where a triple-7 captain for one of the majors said that his ops department was warning the pilots about this. Don't uninstall your old school vor /localizer/glide slopes just jet!
