I clearly don't get into the cockpit of something this big often enough, can someone enlighten me as to the purpose of the large black handles to the outside of the control stick? I'm pretty sure my 172 doesn't have those... of course, its missing a lot of the other bells & whistles too. Thanks!

If you miss anything of your 172 I don't think it would be any problem. You might probably take your full 172 fuselage inside this cockpit.
