Headsets, ANR?, 20dB vs 24dB??????

Postby weswood151 » Thu May 08, 2008 11:59 am

All right I do understand what ANR is, and what a dB is. I have googled and googled opinions on different headsets. My CFI recomends Lightspeed and my wife enjoys her 20XLc set, but she has no reference to other headsets. Before I go ahead and add another set of 20XLcs to the family I would love to hear some opinions from those that have been through a few headsets. Please no "Lightspeed sucks" and "David Clark is da bomb," ect. I have found all those opinions on other less professional forums.

Thanks in advance

I have had a top of the line Peltor, not ANR, loved it.
I then tried an ANR coversion in another Peltor. It blocked out lower frequency noise but net effect was no better than the best non ANR.
Then I got a Clarity Aloft, http://www.clarityaloft.com/ and would never go back, ever.

I use something verry similar to the clarity aloft in my Army flight helmet. We call them CEPs, and they look exactly like the Clarity Aloft ear pieces. I think they are great and have considered buying the Carity Aloft. The price is slightly out of my current range. Have you delt with there customer service at all, and how easy is it to get replacement tips?

Thanks for your comment. I will certainly continue to look at their product.

Had no trouble getting more tips for the ear pieces.
For what it's worth I bought a set of earphones for my MP3 to use in a car for $35.00 at Radio Shack that are very similar in use. The difference in cost between kinda good and really excellent is big, but worth it.
As for the passive Peltors, 26 Db was good, 24 Db just didn't make it.

FWIW, there's a less expensive alternative to the Clarity Aloft headset... the Quiet Technologies Halo. I bought one a month ago and I really like it.

For a good discussion of their pro's and cons, look here.

I have to agree with Brad, got my QT Halos at SnF and have been totally happy about them. My girlfriend loves them too, and you know how picky women can be...

Phil, the owner of QT, is an extra nice guy, he became even nicer when I bought 2 more headsets for a friend in Switzerland, and brought a friend who bought another one...

Ciao, Luca
(just a happy QT Halo customer)

P.S. Yes, I will need to update my avatar, I was using my friend's DC flying a rented Duchess out of RHV in that old pic!
