Funny ATC call

Postby Soccer-Jock » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:30 am

My garage workshop radio is perpetually tuned to St. Pete Tower and runs at low volume in the background. Yesterday was very calm wind, cool, clear sunny day at St. Pete. I was working on a project before heading into work at about 7:30 am. I hear ATC call out to a pilot: "Baron XYZ, enter a left base for runway 35 right, cleared to land." Pilot: "Left base, 35 right, cleared to land. Baron XYZ" a few moments later... Pilot: "Tower, Baron XYZ, I have a traffic on short final." Tower: "Traffic?" Pilot: "Looks like several really big flamingos." Tower: "Are you sure they are Flamingos?" Pilot: "They're big and they're pink!" Tower: " Ok Sully, go around and enter a left downwind for runway 9-er".

Hahahahaha. Great story. I wish someone taped it. I bet that they were just on the wrong frequency, they were clearly on an ILS Approach.
