Oshkosh must see/do items?

Postby davidsflying » Wed Jul 11, 2012 1:06 pm

I'm going to Oshkosh for the first time this year, planning to arrive Wednesday evening and staying until Sunday morning. While there's obviously an infinite amount of things to see and do just curious if people have suggestions for must see / do items?

Wander slowly, enjoy the people you meet, ride the shuttles, and attend the forums to get a chance to sit out of the sun and be entertained.
A good hat, sunscreen and a folding chair/backpack is great for keeping your hands free and sitting comfortably at airshow time.
Remember, not all who wander, are lost.

My top two things people told us to see at my first Airventure that I was glad I did was the sea plane base and the museum. We also had a blast sitting listening to our handheld radio watching the incoming planes.

Flying a Mooney M20D. One of only 3 fixed-gear Mooney aircraft still flying.

The helicopter ride over the grounds (from Pioneer Field, near the museum) is worth doing at least once. It gives a great view of just how big a deal AirVenture is.

It can be a long wait for a short ride, but I'm glad I did it!

The Ford Trimotor, and, if you can get a slot, the Breezy.

Also, have the fresh made donuts at least one morning, and eat breakfast at the Tall Pines Cafe (near ultralights).

Oh, and if you can get off field, eat at Ardy & Eds.

And if we're lucky (or unlucky, depending) Tupper may be serving Jeremiah Weed at Firebase Airspeed.
