GPS degradation in SE US through Feb 22nd

Yikes, I imagine a lot of 'GPS only' pilots stumbling around the south east over the next few weeks!

Will they NOTAM every RNAV approach in the affected area?

I imagine they're being pretty conservative about things, so maybe not that many people will even notice?

Strange that they wouldn't do these tests over the south Atlantic or something. Maybe it has something to do with ADS-B?

Does this mean that my backup GPS won't work either?

Greg, I'm going to guess that location is (just) inside of US territorial waters. I'd say there'd be a bit of a diplomatic row if this was in international waters.

I'm interested in:
- Will they confine the testing to the dead of the night when traffic is low already?
and
- What on earth are they 'testing'??

The answer the the second one may scare everyone though!

Western US pilots are used to this, especially near the China Lake and White Sands facilities.

The schedule is kept here: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/gps/gpsnotices/GPS_Interference.pdf

And yes, what they are "testing" is their ability to jam the signal. That's why they ask for feedback from GA pilots. You are part of the test.

Here's another one, with a map depicting the affected area. It came out today, giving us absolutely no notice at all.

So, would these outages or tests show up on my RAIM prediction checks?

I often use the FAA site: http://www.raimprediction.net/applet.php. Is this covered?
