Now we're flying /G

Postby kswim94 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:24 pm

My dad and I own a '77 Grumman Tiger. For some time, we've been contemplating upgrading our /U panel (King 170/175, ADF, Mode C transponder) and installing a 430w. Being ever so close to taking the plunge, Garmin decides to announce their new GTN series. It was fate.

This weekend we took our first flights with the GTN 650 and we are impressed. Using the unit to shoot approaches is very intuitive - managed to shoot 5 approaches and a hold under rather gusty and bumpy conditions with ease (no problems with the touch screen, btw).

Of course, it cost a few AMU's - for the unit, the installation, and, of course, the new granite countertops that I had to get to make it up to my wife (they get installed next week). But I'm giddy looking forward to many new adventures with the family in our Tiger.

Now did you spend more in AMUs on the Garmin gear or in WMUs on the bench tops? :D

WMU's ... VERY funny!

I think I need everybody here to be on board with this one. If my wife asks ... I spent MORE on the countertops ;)
