There are those who feel we need to repeat the mistakes of 1936, just to prove a point. You know, maybe this time will be different.
We elected the Congress that is doing this, and has maneuvered itself down to a ten percent approval rating. This fall, make sure the folks you vote for promise compromise and change for the common good, not more hard line ideology. We've seen enough of that.
I don't like to think what the country needs is a good train wreck.
Remember, not all who wander, are lost.

We are looking at this at our airline. One concern of ours since our specialty is smaller markets is that many of them may loose ATC resources with tower closures, since manpower is one of the big costs. (Look at the defense budget - for all of the talk about expensive bombers, hammers and toilet seats, the cost of personnel is staggering.) Manpower intensive efforts are costly. Short term, we believe tower closures will be an adverse impact, as the risk of loss of aircraft separation is significant. Over the longer term, NextGen solutions, including Blended Airspace and Virtual or Remote Tower options will permit us to enjoy Tower-like service at reduced cost. Of course, all of this assumes that they don't cut too deeply into NextGen.....But with congress, anything is possible - or impossible, depending on how you look at it!

So it seems to me that we have some turbulent air in our flight plan getting from here to there.....
