Tragedy at Dayton

Postby RigaRunner » Sun Jun 23, 2013 11:12 am

There was terrible news reported last night about wing walker Jane Wicker and pilot Charlie Schenker who both died yesterday in a crash at the Dayton Air Show. They were real pros, wonderful people, and they loved the work they did.

My wife and I last saw them perform in Punta Gorda, Florida at the International Airshow and we were looking forward to seeing them again at the Leesburg Virginia Air Show on September 28.

Hard to understand exactly what happened, but here is a pretty clear video of the final seconds: http://tinyurl.com/kom99eu

or if you prefer the long version: http://www.whiotv.com/news/news/local/wing-walkers-plane-crashes-at-dayton-air-show/nYSBY/?ref=cbTopWidget

Oh my goodness.

The only thing I can imagine that sudden would be control linkage failure or something similar.

Gack.

In fact in the video you can see the elevator quickly move from a negative (nose down) position to positive.

I can't imagine any sort of medical crisis in the cockpit causing something that sudden, but I suppose that's also a possibility.

Anyway, hearts go out to family and friends, as well as spectators who weren't ready to see a tragedy like that.

To die so young
so full of life and joy.
While we are left
to mourn the loss.
And carry on.
Remember, not all who wander, are lost.
