Apple Watch Flight Applications

Postby Sven » Mon Sep 15, 2014 1:11 pm

We have a lot of very valuable applications for our phones and pads. My question for you three is what applications do you foresee being of benefit on something like the Apple Watch? I don't wear a watch and would need a very compelling reason to wear at $350 wristband. Someone must be thinking about useful pilot apps and I'd love to hear your opinions on the podcast about watch apps. Thanks.

I had the same question when the apple watch was first announced, but my only problem with it is its reliance on the iPhone. I've used Garmin's D2 watch which independently does a great job in the cockpit. Garmin just released three new non-aviation watches http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/748678 ... q-ces-2015. It won't be long before the next gen D2 is equipped with a high res colour display and a faster processor. Unless the future gen Apple watch can work independently, I really don't see how useful it would be for pilots.

Garmin announced the D2 Bravo Titanium watch today (17-05-2016) with the addition of a hear rate feature and automated flight logging in addition to other features. Garmin report that the watch also contains multisport functions for golfing, cycling, rowing, swimming, hiking, skiing, running...etc. the battery life (according to Garmin's website) is 16 hours of battery life in GPS mode, up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 3 weeks in watch mode. I'd like to see the apple watch try and match this!!!!
