Unnecessarly loss of an old bird

Postby gmarshall » Sat Jul 04, 2015 5:24 pm

So a Catalina was being used in the filming of a Nic Cage movie. It had been 'restored' (was apparently flyable and working as a tanker before being restored) to it's WWII appearance for the movie. During filming, it started taking on water and was beached, with the nose mostly underwater.

A salvage company tried to retrieve it, hoisting it onto a barge. They apparently should have let the water out of the hull as they lifted it, because they turned it into a crumpled mess.

Same plane from movie Always, and so much history. We could have used it this summer.
Shame on the them for letting this happen.
Remember, not all who wander, are lost.
