SF Bay Area Meetup

Postby jackhodgson » Thu Dec 18, 2008 2:51 pm

I'll be in the San Francisco area from about Dec 30 to Jan 13. I'd love to get together with one or more UCAP listeners for coffee or whatever passes for Leinies out there.

If you're interested reply here, or send me email at podcast@uncontrolledairspace.com.

I don't want this to become a complex date/location negotiation, the first person who comes up with a good idea that fits my schedule (eg. I'm in town for MacWorld Expo, so that period is out), we'll run with it and let the chips fall where they may.

PS. All three of us will be in the Sebring Florida area in late Jan. Maybe a similar thing could happen down there. Speak up.

I am heading to SFO in February on business for a week (okay we call it a jolly).

Can anyone recommend a good FBO where I could get a lesson in a 172 or 182?

I assume you'll be staying in the city... how about a lunch on Sunday the 11th? Ferry Building or nearby?

Rather than Leinie's I guess you'll have to settle for some Anchor Steam or maybe some of our local grape juice. ;)

Could also do something the 2nd, 3rd or 4th or some other day in the evening.

There's Diamond Aviation in San Carlos [http://www.ksql.com], or West Valley Flying Club [http://www.wvfc.org] at San Carlos, Palo Alto and Hayward. There are more, but I don't have experience with any of the others close to SF.

Count me in on this meetup. Sounds like fun!

I don't have any date or meeting place suggestions right now, I'll remain open. If nothing else comes through by New Year's, I'll do my best to come up with a place.

I'm not so sure about MacExpo this year. I've gone every year for the last 9 or so, but the main people I'm interested in talking with are no longer there. It's a dying show....

in-person trade shows are a dying breed in general, even more so when marketing budgets are being axed given the economic situation worldwide. And on a pure marketing standpoint, it makes just so more sense to reach the right target of people with the many different Internet medias instead of havinig people travel to attend big trade shows.

And when Apple pulls out of MacWorld, I guess that's a big wakeup call... :D

The airlines will soon realize that the Internet is a big threat to their business. People will have more spare time because they will work from remote and will stop commuting. That means people will have more spare time, and thus there are higher chances to see new pilots. Unless the new pilots will all be virtual, that is...

Ciao, Luca

P.S. Too bad I won't be in the SF area like last year! Did a lot of flying between Dec 30th and Jan 3rd visiting my friend Silvano who lives in E45 (Pine Mountain Lake).

The time and place for the San Francisco UCAP meetup has been set.

I asked around and a good time/location seems to be on Saturday, Jan 3, from 2-4 pm in the 101 Flight Lounge of the San Francisco Airport Marriott.

Will Hawkins, of the awesome Pilot's Flight PodLog, will be joining me for a couple hours (and you never know who else may drop by) and we'd love to be joined by anyone interested. Come on by.

I'm told that the 101 Flight Lounge has a great view of the operations at SFO. Beer selection: Unknown.

Hope to see you there.

(If you have any questions, contact me at podcast@uncontrolledairspace.com. And, check this space Saturday morning just in case there has been any change.)
