Shuttle Discovery Arrives Washington DC

The time has now been announced for the arrival of the space shuttle Discovery in the Washington, DC area: between 10:00 and 11:00 EDT on Tuesday,
2012-04-17. The precise route hasn't been announced, but it is likely to include the National Mall and surrounding suburbs. Final destination is the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles airport (KIAD).
A commercial pilot, IFR rated, who flies a Cirrus SR22 out of JYO.

It should be quite a sight. When I was stationed at Kelly AFB in San Antonio in the mid 1980's, I was driving home from work one afternoon when I looked up and saw the 747 carrying a shuttle on approach to land at Kelly. The shuttle had landed at Edwards (due to weather in Florida) and was at the mid-point of its return flight to FL. Very, very impressive - especially when you're not expecting to see it.

I'm surprised there wasn't a pile-up on Loop 410 that day!
